The Mayor and Professor District is located south of the city center of Leiden in the Netherlands. The area lies under the Roodenburger district of the city and for statistical purposes is composed of the municipalities of Burgemeesterswijk, West Profenwijk-West and Professorenwijk-Oost. These parts are almost always mentioned at the same time, because it concerns Granpré Molière, Verhagen and Kok offices that were designed as urban units. Since 2011, they have been included in the protected urban landscape of the Southern Peel. The street name comes from the mayor of Leiden and the professor of Leiden University. The iconic part of Professorenwijk is the ensemble of Petruskerk and surrounding houses, designed by architects Kropholler and Van Oerle on Lammenschansweg, Lorentzkade and Zeemanlaan. The most important direct street is the De Sitterlaan-Burggravenlaan axis.
